Privacy policy
Last updated: May 2026.
Frontier Bylines is a static publication. The site is published as a set of pre-rendered HTML pages and assets, served from a content delivery network. We do not run a database that holds reader records. We do not run third-party analytics on this site. We do not embed third-party trackers, ad networks, or fingerprinting scripts. The shortest accurate version of this policy is that we collect almost no data about you, and what we do collect is described below.
What the site does
When you load a page on this site, your browser makes a request to our content delivery network, which returns the page and its assets (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts). The CDN records standard request logs — IP address, user agent, requested URL, response status, response size, timestamp — for the purposes of operating the service, debugging outages, and protecting against abuse. These logs are retained for a short rolling window. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we do not share them with third parties.
The site uses the browser's localStorage for two small features: a list of articles you have saved to your reading list, and a remembered preference for reader mode. These values are stored entirely on your device. They are not transmitted to any server. You can clear them at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Fonts
The site requests two web fonts (Lora and Inter) from Google Fonts. Loading those fonts causes your browser to make a request to Google's servers, which receives your IP address and user agent in the course of returning the font files. Google's privacy policy governs that request. We do not receive that data ourselves. We are considering migrating to self-hosted fonts to remove this dependency; until we do, this disclosure is the bright line.
Newsletter
If you sign up for the newsletter via one of the forms on the site, the form is currently configured to compose a mailto: message to our subscriptions address with your email in the body. We add the resulting email address to a list maintained on our newsletter delivery provider (currently [TKTK: provider name to be added when the dispatch ships]). The list holds your email address, the date you signed up, and the dispatches you have opened. We do not sell or share the list. You can unsubscribe at any time via the unsubscribe link in any newsletter, or by emailing subscribe@frontierbylines.com.
Cookies
We do not set first-party cookies. We do not set third-party cookies. If a future change requires a cookie banner, we will add one and tell readers what changed.
Search
The site's search is powered by Pagefind, a static-site search index that runs entirely in your browser. Your search queries are not sent to a server. Pagefind loads a pre-built index of the site content and matches against it locally.
Your rights
Because we hold so little, the practical reach of most data-protection rights against us is small. That said: you have the right to ask whether we hold any information about you (we generally do not, except a newsletter email if you signed up), to ask for a copy of that information, to ask for it to be corrected, and to ask for it to be deleted. Requests go to editorial@frontierbylines.com. We will respond within thirty days.
GDPR and CCPA
Where the EU's General Data Protection Regulation applies, the legal basis for the limited processing we do (server logs, newsletter delivery) is our legitimate interest in operating the publication, balanced against the fact that we collect almost nothing else. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, we do not sell personal information and we do not have a sale to opt out of. If you live in California and would like to exercise other CCPA rights, write to the editorial address.
Children
The publication is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of thirteen. If you believe a child has signed up for the newsletter, write to subscribe@frontierbylines.com and we will remove the entry.
Changes to this policy
We will note the last-updated date at the top of this page when the policy changes. Material changes — new providers, new data we begin to collect, new disclosures — will be announced in the newsletter and on the corrections page.
